Even at launch it was oddly slow, when there was k people on and now with the average player count being maybe 5k, high points being maybe near 10k and low points being 3k, it can take 20 minutes or so to get a match which is way to long for a game that still has a decent player count online. I even tried some big team, thinking that Invasion sadly died off but it’s the same issue.

MCC launched to positive reviews across the board, but once in the wild it instantly became clear that the game had serious problems. The matchmaking times have always been, for me, extraordinarily long despite various sizeable post-release patches. So on Friday evening, which should be a good time for finding a match, I timed my searching experience on every mode. Halo CE playlist A mere one minute 29 seconds!
Unfortunately created a 3 vs 2 game, with awful respawn placements usually next to the enemy. Tried again, an equally quick searchtime with the same result — a game with lopsided teams. Team Halo 2 Anniversary playlist First game took two minutes 45 seconds. This game crashed immediately after starting. Second attempt took seven minutes 50 seconds. Halo 2 Classic playlist Three minutes 10 seconds. Big Team Battle playlist Eleven minutes six seconds.
A few seconds after starting, I was booted from the match. Team Hardcore playlist Four minutes 10 seconds. In-game teams were 2 vs 2 in a 3 vs 3 gametype, and a bug with respawns occasionally froze your countdown at 9.
Halo: Reach’s slow and steady progress towards release on the PC, as the first entry in the platform’s version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, continues onwards. In the most recent development update from Industries, the studio provides an early look at how the addition of Reach will change the bundle’s approach to cosmetic unlocks and—surprise, surprise—it looks quite similar to a battle pass. The first season of this new approach will include armor customization options for Spartans and Elites along with other cosmetic content that appeared in Halo: Reach’s original Xbox release.
The UI preview screenshots suggest that these will be divided up into tiers, each unlockable in sequence for one “season point” each.

It’s been more than a week since Halo: The Master Chief Collection hit shelves, and players are still waiting for matchmaking issues to sort themselves out. Right now, lots of players still can’t regularly get into multiplayer games. It was supposed to get better with a patch tomorrow, but it’s been delayed. A recent update says the patch “will now be releasing later this week to allow for additional fixes, as well as the completion of the testing and certification process.
That does sound important, yes, but it doesn’t make The Master Chief Collection’s issues any less glaring or frustrating. The full patch notes will be posted later this week, in advance of the content update release. This is just a joke now.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Popular Twitch Streamer Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel tried out the new Halo Master Chief Collection when it came out on Steam on December 3 and quickly found that controller, not mouse and keyboard, was the way to go. After getting nostalgic during his first few games of Halo Reach, xQc actually started to frag out and do pretty well in Halo and he gave all the credit to his controller. At the end of the above clip, you can actually see the aim-assist in action very briefly and it does seem to latch right on to the enemy player.
When xQc first started playing MCC he was using a mouse and keyboard and commented that there was noticeable input lag that seemed to go away or become less annoying with the switch to the controller. Halo games were originally made for the Xbox so controllers being the natural way for a lot of people to play the game comes as no surprise, and the aim assist gives players even more incentive to pick up the sticks one again.
There’s some talk of the Master Cheif Collection “revitalizing” Halo esports and if it does, it would be interesting to see whether more players go for controller or mouse and keyboard.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is about to get some major updates that will drastically rework code and improve functionality, courtesy of a small team within Industries dedicated solely to supporting old Halo games. Normally this would be good – if somewhat expected – news. What makes this particular turn of events notable is that it’s currently February , more than three years on from Halo: MCC’s original release date of November 11, It’s not like this hasn’t been coming for awhile, either.
MCC was famously lambasted for unreliable matchmaking, sluggish performance, and general clunky bugginess. So what’s on the docket for the future? API stands for Application Programming Interface – essentially it’s a suite of tools and code for handling programming requests, ie. So in the case of MCC’s matchmaking, this means an update to how the game connects to other copies of the game and Xbox Live.
Xbox Matchmaking services would find you a match but the notification might get lost on the way to the system and then the game title itself would never see it. Under the old model the system software was the authority on who was connected to who and how This gives the title and us a lot more control over party management. So basically, it used to be that MCC relied on your Xbox One’s software to decide who and how you connected to other players.

I can’t quite say this is the one I’ve been waiting for —that’s Halo 3—but Halo 2 joined the Master Chief Collection on PC Tuesday night, and it’s an ideal place to start really devoting time to Halo’s online multiplayer. It’s still fun, but not a game I’d dump hours of time into. Halo 2, even after 15 years, feels just deep enough.
It’s still the kind of multiplayer game that can demands precision aiming, tight teamwork, and intricate map knowledge to master. This is the moment on PC many Halo fans have been waiting for and after a few hours of testing I can say that if you plan to jump in now, be prepared to run into some bugs.
